IPI pipeline gets the go ahead

(4/9/2009, Pipeline Asia) The Pakistani Cabinet has approved the construction of Iran – Pakistan – India (IPI) Pipeline and given the go-ahead for purchase of 21.2 MMcm of gas from Iran to fulfil growing local demand.

The Cabinet decided to finalise an agreement with Iran to import gas for power generation in place of furnace oil, which would prove approximately 40 per cent more economical, according to local news sources.

The Pakistani Government has also called for aggressive planning for the exploration of natural resources to reduce the country’s dependence on imported oil and gas.
