Energy Transfer Pipeline Rupture Sparks Twin Explosions in Garland County
(P&GJ) — In Garland County, Arkansas, emergency teams swiftly responded to a gas pipeline rupture that occurred on Oct. 4, KARK reported.
According to KARK, the Garland County Sheriff's Office spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place at 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 4 behind a residence located in the 1400 block of Highway 298 near Jessieville.
Two explosions have been linked to the pipeline rupture.
Energy Transfer owns the pipeline in question, and their crews promptly shut down one end of the pipeline and actively worked to address the situation at the other end.
Drone footage, courtesy of Josh Coleman, captured the enormous fire that erupted as a result of this pipeline rupture. The fire was successfully contained, but crews on the scene reported witnessing a massive 200 to 300-foot plume of fire soar into the air as well, KARK reported.
A multitude of agencies were on site, including the Arkansas State Police, Garland County Office of Emergency Services, Life Net, the Arkansas Departments of Transportation and Forestry, along with fire departments from Jessieville, Fountain Lake, Buckeville, and Piney.
No injuries associated with this pipeline rupture were reported.
However, the incident prompted evacuations within the vicinity, spanning from Harding Road on Highway 298 to the 1014 block of Hwy 298. Evacuees were accommodated at Jessieville High School. Just after 7:10 p.m., GCSO officials reopened State Highway 298.
Additionally, no structures were damaged as a result of the rupture.
