Amplify Energy Restarts San Pedro Bay Pipeline Damaged by Anchor Strike
(P&GJ) — Amplify Energy Corp. has received the required approvals from federal regulatory agencies to restart operations at the Beta Field, the company said on April 10.
“The approval from federal regulatory agencies and the receipt of $85 million in net proceeds from the vessels that struck and damaged our pipeline substantially concludes a very challenging last 18 months for the company,” Martyn Willsher, Amplify’s president and CEO, said.
The 17-mile San Pedro Bay Pipeline, which transports crude oil from multiple offshore sites to a processing facility in Long Beach, will be the company's initial effort to resume full operations. Since the pipeline was harmed by a ship's anchor and leaked about 25,000 gallons of crude oil into the water in October 2021, it has not been in use.

It is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, the company said.
Following the line fill process, the pipeline will be operated in accordance with the restart procedures that were reviewed and approved by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
