Sabal Trail Pipeline Construction Underway

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) – A more than 500-mile-long pipeline under construction in east Alabama will take natural gas through Georgia on its way to Florida.

The Sabal Trail pipeline will transport natural gas from the Transco pipeline north of Alexander City, Alabama, to near Orlando in central Florida. The natural gas will be used by Florida Power and Light, and Duke Energy of Florida.

The Opelika-Auburn News (http://bit.ly/2gLObxr ) reports construction already has started in Tallapoosa County.

Crews will build the Alabama section along a route through Tallapoosa, Chambers, Lee and Russell counties. It will meet the Georgia construction team and cross the Chattahoochee River.

The pipeline is being built for a cost of $3.2 billion by Sabal Trail Transmission, LLC, which is jointly owned by three energy companies.
