Vermeer opened a 312,000 global parts distribution center to support customers and dealers around the world, marking the second major facility opening this year as the number of products and markets it supports continue to expand.
Earlier in 2023, the company expanded its parts manufacturing footprint in Des Moines, Iowa. That facility manufactures horizontal directional drill tooling and utility tractor attachments.
The new distribution facility, constructed on the grounds of its headquarters in Pella, Iowa, is located at the end of an old runway that founder Gary Vermeer used to deliver parts to customers by plane.
“Vermeer is focused on optimizing this facility so we can most efficiently deliver the right part at the right time to our customers,” said Tony Briggs, vice president of the Vermeer Lifecycle product group. “This facility allows customer support, engineering, procurement and logistics to be co-located.”
The location of the global parts distribution center leverages the manufacturing capabilities of “the Vermeer mile,” where most of its products are assembled.
Valve automation solutions provider Automation Technology announced the launch of its Zero Emission Electro-Hydraulic actuator solution to eliminate the carbon footprint of pipeline operations.
Pipeline actuators have relied on using the gas from the pipeline as a power source, resulting in emissions. With Automation Technology’s self-contained solution, the power source is attached to the actuator, eliminating the need to use pipeline gas as its primary power supply.
The Zero Emission Electro-Hydraulic package can be mounted directly to the valve via flange or custom adaptation. The pump, motor, reservoir limit switches, solenoids and positioners are mounted to the actuator. In remote locations where power is not available, the company provides solar power systems. It also provides a skid-mounted hydraulic power unit for larger operations, enabling power for multiple actuators simultaneously.
