Whats New: May 2015

New products and services from McElroy, CDI, Blastwrap, ESAB, National Safety Apparel and more.

McElroy Manufacturing

McElroy has introduced the Talon™ 2000 to tackle the challenges of fusing large-diameter thermoplastic pipe from 54-inch OD – 2000mm. It is McElroy’s biggest fusion machine to date with the ability to lift pipe from the ground with its powerful jaws as the machine adjusts its height and orientation to correctly align and fuse pipe. The Talon 2000 is a self-propelled vehicle, eliminating the need for cranes. It straddles the pipeline as a wireless remote control operator moves it from fusion to fusion. It is self-contained and powered by an Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) engine that provides electric and hydraulic power. www.mcelroy.com.

CDI

CDI is ready to discuss the X100-1N solution for the smallest lines that will allow the tightest pigs to be tracked. The X100-1N is the size of a C-Cell battery and can fit in pigs as small as 2 inches. The X100-1N has CDI’s industry-standard operating pressure rating of 2,500psi (172 bar). While tiny, the X100-1N is also a fully capable computer-controlled TRAXALL compatible EM transmitter which has programmable frequency and output power through the use of CDI’s FieldLink software. www.pigging.com

Blastwrap International

Blastwrap International’s patented BlastWrap® technology is designed to effectively mitigate blast effects and suppress post-blast fires. Previously BlastWrap® was used as a passive system wherein the blast effects would cause the packaging containing the BlastWrap® mitigation media to burst and intercept the fireball, creating an effective blast mitigation event. A new active dispersal technology energizes the BlastWrap® media in one to two milliseconds and “launches” BlastWrap® into the blast event via an off-the-shelf automotive technology product, which is triggered by low cost ultra-high decibel sensors that require no external power source or batteries. BlastWrap® in its sensor-activated mode can be placed in front of buildings, military bases, embassies, schools, pipeline, petrochemical plants and other places where terrorist attacks could take place or where instant fire suppression action is required. www.blastgardintl.com

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products introduces the Aristo® Tech HD welding helmet, its first auto-darkening helmet with an optical class of 1/1/1/1, which indicates the highest optical performance possible according to the EN 379 Standard. The helmet features an advanced LCD lens with a 100 x 62 mm (3.9 x 2.4-inch) viewing area – 12 mm (0.5-inches) larger than the previous lens – for wider visibility and better spatial awareness. ESAB’s X-TIG mode provides superior performance when TIG welding down to 5 amps. In the X-TIG mode, the helmet uses electromagnetic arc sensors that automatically react to the magnetic field of the arc. www.esab.com.

Other timesaving features including one code check for multiple water depths for jackets and a new method for copying of large models that includes all structural components. www.dnvgl.com

Neo Oiltools

Neo Oiltools has launched its downhole torque management tool, NeoTork. Designed to automatically manage torque generated from the drill bit and mitigate axial and torsional vibrations, developers say in lab and comparative tests vertical vibrations dropped by a factor of four and stalling virtually disappeared even with heavy loading. NeoTork can be used in a number of applications on both drilling rigs, or with coiled tubing in any operations that require milling, drilling or cutting of materials using rotation. It can also be used in specialized operations such as coring, hole enlargement, directional drilling, casing milling and well intervention. www.neo-oiltools.com

H2scan

H2scan’s HY-ALERTA™ 500 handheld hydrogen leak detector is able to respond to a wide range of hydrogen gas concentrations without the need of any peripheral equipment. The sensor probe has a unique visual LED array that will effectively help navigate to the source of a hydrogen leak where hydrogen gas is produced, used, transported, or stored. With two sensing elements on the same semiconductor die, the HY-ALERTA™ 500 can detect hydrogen leaks as low as 15 ppm and will not saturate or be destroyed when detecting high concentrations of hydrogen up to 100%. www.h2scan.com

Sensoray

Sensoray has introduced its Model 2253P A/V Codec with GPS receiver and incremental encoder interfaces for pipeline inspection, mining, robotics and more. In addition, all operating power is supplied by a single USB port, giving the device the necessary flexibility for these applications. The device can simultaneously encode, decode and preview A/V content and is housed in a rugged, compact exterior. The device allows two different video streams to be produced simultaneously from a single composite input. One of the streams can remain uncompressed so as to be useful for real-time previewing, or both streams may be compressed. www.sensoray.com

Gas Measurement Instruments Ltd.

Gas Measurement Instruments Ltd. (GMI) has introduced its PS500 multi-gas monitor for high performance detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), oxygen enrichment or deficiency, and a wide range of flammable and toxic gases. The portable monitor displays up to 5 gases simultaneously using electrochemical, catalytic, infrared and PID-sensing technologies with “plug and play” design. The PS500 is suited for confined space applications offering an optional internal sampling pump and diffusion mode capability. The portable monitor is housed in a high-impact rubberized case and is rated IP65 dust-tight and water-resistant. AW-Lake Company

AW-Lake Company’s next-generation variable area flow meters employ an improved calibration process with an integrated laser engraving system, providing precise scale locations and increments directly tied to calibration points on each individual meter. The new calibration and scaling process not only streamlines the production process, it also improves meter accuracy to 2% of full scale over the full flow range. This was accomplished by integrating the calibration process with the meter’s custom-scale application. This new process is being implemented across all VA meter styles, including Lake’s basic, high temp, pneumatic, and case drain meters, as well as alarms, transmitters and hydraulic test analyzers. www.aw-lake.com.

SNAP-FILL’s design eliminates cross-threading or partial installation and is environmentally compliant. www.BergquistInc.com.

Deep Blue Engineering

Deep Blue Engineering’s new shuttle sub can conduct subsea pipe, umbilical and cable installations. Installing pipe in deepwater will be conducted using a cartridge that is effectively a pipe “hopper.” The largest shuttle sub will be capable of transporting and laying around 100 tons of pipe during each trip from the support vessel. Each pipe is extracted from the hopper by two manipulators which can be used to position and align the pipe, then inserted to make up a connection. After completing the connection and torque-up, a manipulator (which hosts a pressure packer) is inserted into the open end of the newly installed pipe, and a hydro pressure-test is conducted to check the integrity of the newly made connection. The pressure test “stinger” manipulator is then withdrawn from the pipe, and the shuttle sub moves on to install the next pipe section. www.deepblueengineering.co.uk
