Bakken Pipeline To Transport Gas To Upper Midwest Markets

WBI Energy Inc. plans a natural gas pipeline from far western North Dakota to western Minnesota where it would connect with Viking Gas Transmission Co.’s pipeline system.

The project would increase takeaway capacity from the Bakken to accommodate natural gas production. The pipeline is initially designed to transport 400 MMcf/d and, depending on user commitments, could be expanded to exceed 500 MMcf/d. The investment is estimated at $650-700 million.

The route would stretch from 20 miles southwest of Williston to an interconnection with Viking northeast of Moorhead. The majority of the 400-mile system would be comprised of 24-inch pipeline and would include two compressor stations. Long-term capacity commitments will be sought in an open season expected in late summer. Construction would begin in 2016 with completion expected by late 2016.
