Tricor Applies for FERC Authorization to Construct Potential Gas Storage Hub

Tricor Ten Section Hub, LLC announced June 16 that it has filed an application with FERC for authorization to construct and operate a high-deliverability, multi-cycle underground natural gas storage facility in Kern County, California, ten miles southwest of Bakersfield.

The Tricor Ten Section natural gas storage facility would provide 22.4 Bcf of working gas and 10.1 Bcf of base gas. Upon completion, the storage facility would provide four high-speed cycles of service per year with a maximum withdrawal rate of 1.0 Bcf per day and a maximum injection rate of 0.8 Bcf per day. According to Tricor’s application, the facility would initially interconnect with the jointly-owned Kern River/Mojave interstate pipeline. However, the facility will be in close proximity to, and may later seek to interconnect with, the two major intrastate pipeline systems of Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and Southern California Gas Company (SoCal Gas), giving the Tricor storage hub a combined lateral surrounding optionality of more than 4 Bcf.

Tricor commenced an open season for Ten Section’s capacity on June 1, 2009. The open season will run until September 30, 2009.

Tricor has requested that FERC issue a certificate by February 2010 so that it may commence service in January 2012.
