Australia’s Woodside, Türkiye’s BOTAŞ Sign LNG Deal from Louisiana Project

Türkiye’s BOTAŞ signed a Heads of Agreement with Woodside to receive 5.8 Bcm of LNG over nine years starting in 2030, primarily from the Louisiana LNG project.

(P&GJ) — Türkiye’s state-owned pipeline operator BOTAŞ has signed a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Australia’s Woodside to secure liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies starting in 2030.

The deal covers about 5.8 billion cubic meters (Bcm) of natural gas equivalent over a period of up to nine years, primarily sourced from the Louisiana LNG project in the United States.

The agreement was exchanged by BOTAŞ Chairman and General Manager Abdulvahit Fidan and Woodside Chief Operating Officer International Daniel Kalms during a ceremony attended by Türkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

“We are observing the signing of an agreement between a Turkish company and Woodside for the supply of LNG, primarily from Louisiana LNG in the United States, which establishes a connection across continents,” Bayraktar said. “We believe this will be the beginning of a successful relationship between BOTAŞ and Woodside.”

Kalms said the HOA marks the first long-term LNG arrangement between the companies. “More importantly, it stands as a testament to BOTAŞ’s confidence in the Louisiana LNG project, the US LNG sector and Woodside’s reputation for reliability and operational excellence,” he said.

The supply arrangement remains subject to finalization of a binding sales and purchase agreement.
