72-Mile Port Arthur LNG Feedgas Pipeline Enters Service in Louisiana

A key piece of Gulf Coast infrastructure has entered service, strengthening natural gas deliveries to one of North America's largest LNG export projects under construction.

(P&GJ) — Sempra Infrastructure has placed its Port Arthur Pipeline Louisiana Connector into service, adding new natural gas transportation capacity to support the Port Arthur LNG export project under construction on the Texas Gulf Coast.

The pipeline is designed to transport up to 2 Bcf/d of natural gas and will supply feedgas to Port Arthur LNG Phase 1, which is being developed with a nameplate capacity of approximately 13 MMtpy.

The project includes 72 miles of 42-inch pipeline, a compressor station in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, and related facilities. Sempra said total capital expenditures for the project were less than $1 billion.

Justin Bird, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure, said the pipeline was completed ahead of schedule and below budget, marking an important milestone for the company's U.S. energy infrastructure portfolio.

The Louisiana Connector also expands connectivity across the Gulf Coast gas network through interconnections with Sempra's Gillis Hub Pipeline system in southwest Louisiana. The pipeline is additionally linked to the company's LA Storage project, which remains under development and is expected to provide additional natural gas storage and delivery flexibility in the region.

Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 is currently under construction and is expected to become one of the largest new LNG export facilities on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Once operational, the facility will provide access to international markets through long-term LNG export agreements.

The startup of the Louisiana Connector represents another key piece of infrastructure supporting growing U.S. LNG export demand and increasing natural gas flows along the Gulf Coast energy corridor.
