Enbridge-Connected Pipeline Clears Integrity Review in Utah
The 20.9-mile pipeline connecting the Paradox project to the Northwest Pipeline system has passed a key integrity inspection ahead of gas exports.
(P&GJ) — A key natural gas export pipeline serving Zephyr Energy's Paradox project in Utah has passed a critical in-line inspection (ILI), allowing the regulatory approval process to begin for increased operating pressure and future gas deliveries into the Northwest Pipeline system.
The inspection covered approximately 20.9 miles of pipeline running from Zephyr's Powerline Road Gas Plant to the Williams-operated Northwest Pipeline. The line is owned and operated by Enbridge.
According to Zephyr, Enbridge completed a detailed review of the inspection data and determined the pipeline is structurally sound at its current operating pressure, with no repairs required and no immediate integrity concerns identified.
As part of the review, four short sections of pipe totaling approximately 25 feet were identified for visual inspection before the line is authorized to operate at higher pressures needed for gas exports. The company said Enbridge considers the inspections routine and does not expect them to affect the timeline for bringing the project into service.
Completion of the ILI marks an important milestone for the Paradox project because it enables the formal regulatory process required to increase pipeline pressure and transport gas into the interstate transmission system. Zephyr said it expects to provide additional guidance on timing for first gas once Enbridge receives feedback from regulators.
In parallel with the regulatory process, Enbridge is continuing mechanical and piping upgrades needed to connect the project to market. Zephyr is also finalizing plans for gas processing infrastructure and evaluating future drilling opportunities in the basin.
Chief Executive Officer Colin Harrington said the successful inspection confirms the pipeline's integrity and supports the next phase of work needed to begin gas exports from the project. He added that the milestone should also support ongoing marketing and commercial discussions related to the development.
