Kazakhstan’s QazaqGaz Finishes Taldykorgan–Usharal Pipeline Ahead of Schedule
QazaqGaz has completed the Taldykorgan–Usharal main gas pipeline 16 months ahead of schedule, marking a key step in expanding gas access to 84 communities and 134,000 residents in Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu region.
(P&GJ) — Kazakhstan’s national gas company QazaqGaz has completed the Taldykorgan–Usharal main gas pipeline, finishing the major infrastructure project 16 months ahead of schedule, according to an official company statement.
Construction began in August 2024 in the Zhetysu region and included six automated gas distribution stations serving the towns of Kapal, Zhansugurov, Sarkand, Koilyk, Kabanbai, and Usharal.
Regional Governor Beibit Isabayev commended the early completion, noting the pipeline’s role in improving living standards and regional development.
“On behalf of the people of Zhetysu, I would like to thank QazaqGaz for completing the construction of the Taldykorgan–Usharal main gas pipeline ahead of schedule,” Isabayev said. “Access to natural gas not only improves living standards but also represents a strategic priority with a strong economic impact.”
The next stage will connect 84 communities with a combined population of 134,000 people through a new network of local gas distribution lines.
Akbar Tulegenov, deputy chairman for strategy and investment at QazaqGaz, said the company closely monitored progress throughout construction.
“As a result, the new gas pipeline and all six AGDS facilities were completed one year and four months ahead of schedule,” he said. “QazaqGaz has thus carried out the most labor-intensive stage of the project, laying the foundation for the region’s gasification.”
Yelzhas Otynshiyev, managing director for strategy and asset management at Samruk-Kazyna JSC, said the project would bring broad social and economic benefits.
“Gasification will improve the social well-being of local communities, create jobs, enhance the environmental situation, and attract new investment to the region,” he said.
Local residents in Usharal, where winters are long and cold, welcomed the pipeline’s completion.
“We’ve waited a long time for this day,” said Aben Sakipov, an Usharal resident. “It takes up to eight tons of coal a winter to heat our home. We’re very happy that gas has finally reached our district.”
The new gas line is expected to stimulate small business activity, promote tourism, and create new jobs across the Zhetysu region once households begin receiving natural gas.
