The Board of Directors of Emera said Chris Huskilson plans to retire as CEO in 2018, and said it voted to appoint Chief Operating Officer Scott Balfour to replace him.
“The fact that we were able to select a successor internally is a testament to the depth of the leadership team and the succession work that has been done,” said Jackie Sheppard, company chairman,
Balfour joined Emera as executive vice president and chief financial officer in 2012. He was appointed COO of the Northeast and Caribbean regions in March 2016 and COO for Emera in November 2016. He has also assumed responsibility for leading corporate strategy and is the Chair of the Board for most of Emera’s affiliates.
As previously disclosed, Huskilson agreed to provide at least 12 months’ advance notice of his desire to retire, allowing for a seamless leadership transition.
