Vanguard Renewables Brings Three RNG Projects Online Across U.S.

Vanguard Renewables has completed three renewable natural gas projects across Wisconsin and Virginia, adding nearly 870,000 MMBtu of annual RNG production capacity.

(P&GJ) — Vanguard Renewables has completed three renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities in Wisconsin and Virginia, expanding its operational footprint and increasing domestic RNG production capacity.

The Amelia Court House RNG facility, co‑located at the oldest continuously operated dairy farm in Virginia, completes Vanguard Renewables’ initial three‑project portfolio through a joint venture with TotalEnergies and a strategic partnership with AstraZeneca.

The projects were developed through a joint venture with TotalEnergies and are tied to a long-term supply partnership supporting AstraZeneca’s U.S. operations. The facilities are located in River Falls, Wis.; Eden, Wis.; and Amelia Court House, Va.

Together, the sites are expected to produce nearly 870,000 MMBtu of RNG annually while processing large volumes of food, beverage and agricultural waste that would otherwise be sent to landfills.

The Amelia Court House project marked completion of the initial three-project portfolio under the Vanguard-TotalEnergies partnership. The facilities use anaerobic digestion systems combined with depackaging technology to convert organic waste into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas.

Mike O’Laughlin, CEO of Vanguard Renewables, said the projects demonstrate how food and agricultural waste can support domestic energy infrastructure while creating economic benefits for farming communities.

TotalEnergies said the facilities highlight growing demand for scalable low-carbon fuel infrastructure in the United States and the role of strategic partnerships in accelerating deployment.

RNG produced at the facilities will help support AstraZeneca’s U.S. research and manufacturing operations under a long-term supply arrangement. The companies said the agreement also includes work on technologies aimed at improving facility efficiency and reducing operating costs.

Vanguard Renewables said it continues expanding its RNG development pipeline across the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast as demand for renewable gas infrastructure grows.
