Tallgrass Launches Open Season for Trailblazer CO₂ Pipeline
Tallgrass has launched a binding open season for its Trailblazer CO₂ pipeline, targeting carbon capture projects in Iowa and Nebraska.
(P&GJ) — Tallgrass has launched a binding open season for its Trailblazer CO₂ Pipeline, seeking shipper commitments to transport captured carbon dioxide from projects in Iowa and Nebraska.
The open season began May 1 and will run for 21 days, offering incentive-based tariff rates for customers willing to commit to long-term transportation agreements.
The Trailblazer system is designed to move CO₂ from industrial and agricultural sources across the Midwest, supporting the continued buildout of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) infrastructure in the region.
Tallgrass’ latest move follows a series of developments on the system over the past year. In September 2025, the company announced plans to begin CO₂ transport on the repurposed 392-mile Trailblazer pipeline, linking ethanol plants in Nebraska and Iowa to a sequestration site in Wyoming. Initial volumes were expected from a network of ethanol facilities connected to the system.
Two months later, in November 2025, Tallgrass and ADM began operations at a major carbon capture project in Columbus, Nebraska, using the Trailblazer pipeline to transport CO₂ to the company’s Eastern Wyoming Sequestration Hub. The 392-mile system is capable of moving more than 10 million tons of CO₂ per year, marking a key step in scaling large-scale CCS infrastructure.
The open season signals the next phase of development for the Trailblazer system, as Tallgrass looks to expand its network and secure additional volumes from carbon capture projects across the Midwest.
