Petronas’ Bintulu LNG Plant Shuts Two Trains Over Production Issues, Sources Say

Two production trains at Petronas’ flagship Bintulu LNG complex in Malaysia are reportedly offline as operators work to address operational issues, raising fresh attention on supply reliability from one of Asia’s key LNG export hubs.

(Reuters) — Petronas' Bintulu liquefied natural gas complex in Malaysia is experiencing issues at two of its production trains which are offline as a result, two industry sources said on May 25.

One of the sources said trains 1 and 5 will be offline until May 27 to fix an equipment leak.

Petronas did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Bintulu complex in the state of Sarawak on Borneo island is Petronas' flagship LNG facility, with nine production trains and an annual production capacity of 29.3 million metric tons.

Malaysia was the world's fifth-largest LNG exporter last year, according to data from Kpler, shipping out 28 million tons of the super-chilled fuel mainly to buyers in Japan, China and South Korea.
