Certarus Launches Utah CNG Hub for Hyperscale Data Center

Certarus commissioned a new Utah CNG supply hub and secured a contract to provide natural gas for a 60 MW hyperscale data center project near Salt Lake City.

(P&GJ) — Certarus is expanding its compressed natural gas (CNG) network into Utah with a new supply hub near Salt Lake City and a contract to provide fuel for a 60-megawatt hyperscale data center project.

The company said operations at the new Utah facility and gas deliveries tied to the data center project are expected to begin this month. Certarus will serve as the primary natural gas supplier for the project during commissioning and early-stage operations until permanent pipeline infrastructure becomes available.

The expansion comes as data center developers increasingly seek temporary and flexible energy solutions capable of supporting AI and high-performance computing projects ahead of grid and pipeline buildouts.

Dale Winger, president of Certarus, said customers across industrial and data center markets continue facing infrastructure constraints as energy demand grows.

The company said its mobile CNG platform is designed to provide scalable natural gas supply in areas where fixed infrastructure is unavailable or still under development. Certarus operates a large fleet of portable compression units and CNG transport trailers across North America.

Certarus also pointed to broader growth in demand for mobile natural gas supply from industrial customers seeking backup fuel capability, peak-demand support and operational reliability in constrained markets.

The Utah hub is the latest in a series of recent data center-related contract awards for Certarus as North American demand for power and fuel infrastructure tied to AI development continues to increase.
