Texas Pipeline Strike Triggers Gas Leak, Evacuations in Dallas-Area City

A construction strike on a natural gas pipeline in Lake Dallas, Texas, forced evacuations and road closures as crews worked to contain the leak and restore service.

(P&GJ) — A construction-related strike on a natural gas pipeline in Lake Dallas, Texas, prompted evacuations and widespread road closures near City Hall, as emergency crews and utility operators responded to contain the leak, according to WFAA.

The incident occurred at the intersection of North Shady Shores Road and East Hundley Drive, where local officials shut down surrounding streets and redirected traffic to avoid the affected area. Authorities urged drivers to use alternate routes as crews worked to secure the site.

Utility operator Atmos Energy said the damage was caused by a third-party construction crew that struck the pipeline near Main Street. In response, crews halted gas service, assessed the integrity of the line, and began repair operations.

As a precaution, nearby facilities including Lake Dallas City Hall were evacuated while emergency responders monitored the situation.

Officials later confirmed that a second gas line was also impacted in the same area, extending road closures and response efforts. Construction-related excavation remains one of the leading causes of pipeline incidents, according to local authorities.

The situation remained active as crews continued repairs and worked to safely restore normal operations, as reported by WFAA.
