Corpus Christi LNG Feedgas Jumps Following Stage 3 Disruption

An unexpected operational issue briefly disrupted activity at Cheniere's Corpus Christi LNG facility, but new flow data suggests conditions may be changing faster than expected.

(Reuters) — U.S. liquefied natural gas company Cheniere Energy's Corpus Christi LNG export plant in Texas was on track to take in more natural gas on June 11 after liquefaction trains 1-6 at the Midscale Stage 3 expansion shut down on June 10, data from financial firm LSEG showed.

Cheniere said in a report to Texas environmental regulators that it shut the Stage 3 Midscale Trains 1-6 on June 10 after the facility experienced an upset due to high LNG rundown pressure.

Officials at Cheniere had no comment.

  • LSEG said the amount of gas flowing to Corpus was on track to rise to 2.61 billion cubic feet per day on June 11, up from 2.14 billion cubic feet per day on June 10 and a prior seven-day average of 1.81 billion cubic feet per day.
  • If correct, the 2.61 billion cubic feet per day of feedgas on June 11 would be the highest since flows to the plant hit a daily record of 2.64 billion cubic feet per day on January 31, according to LSEG data.
  • Feedgas to the plant has been reduced since the start of June due in part to spring maintenance, energy analysts and traders said.
  • When all units at Corpus are operating, the plant can turn about 3.5 billion cubic feet per day of gas into LNG.
  • The plant has three 0.8-billion cubic feet per day trains 1-3 operating and seven 0.2-billion cubic feet per day midscale trains operating and under construction.
