Woodfibre LNG Advances as Key Process Modules Arrive in Canada

Two major process modules have arrived at Woodfibre LNG’s British Columbia site, pushing construction to nearly 60% complete as the project advances toward LNG production.

The pretreatment module and the process utility module arrived over the weekend aboard a heavy-lift vessel, becoming the 13th and 14th modules delivered to the site and bringing overall project completion to nearly 60%, the company said.

“These modules are critical building blocks of Woodfibre LNG; both serving critical functions within the operations of our future facility,” said Luke Schauerte, CEO of Woodfibre LNG. “It’s tremendously exciting to move another step closer to construction completion and bringing more Canadian LNG to global markets.”

The pretreatment module is designed to remove moisture and trace gases from natural gas feedstock to meet liquefaction specifications, preventing freezing and potential equipment damage during LNG production. The module weighs more than 12,292 metric tons (about 13,550 U.S. tons) and measures more than 295 feet long and 154 feet high.

The process utility module will supply shared systems supporting LNG operations, including cooling water, hot oil heating and thermal oxidization. The module functions as a central utility hub for multiple stages of the liquefaction process and supports emissions management.

Following inspections, the modules are being prepared for offloading and placement using self-propelled modular transporters. Woodfibre LNG said five additional modules are scheduled to arrive at the site in the coming months as construction continues.
