NGC Acquires Trinidad Onshore Compressor to Bolster Gas Flows to Atlantic LNG

NGC has acquired the Trinidad Region Onshore Compressor from bpTT, strengthening gas compression, pipeline reliability and flows to Atlantic LNG and domestic markets.

(P&GJ) — The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. (NGC) has completed the acquisition of the Trinidad Region Onshore Compressor (TROC) from bp Trinidad and Tobago, a move the company says strengthens gas flow reliability and supports LNG exports and domestic supply.

TROC is a key compression asset in the country’s natural gas network, maintaining line pressure and optimizing gas deliveries from upstream producers to downstream markets through NGC’s 56-inch Cross Island Pipeline, which runs from Guayaguayare to Atlantic LNG in Point Fortin.

NGC Chairman Gerald Ramdeen described the acquisition as a strategic milestone for the company and the country’s energy system.

“This acquisition represents a most significant achievement for The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) and for Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector. The acquisition of TROC represents NGC’s new, bold and strategic vision to promote and guarantee energy security that will assure the best interests of NGC, our country and the investments made on behalf of our people,” Ramdeen said.

NGC said bringing TROC under its control will allow the company to sustain and potentially increase gas production from mature fields by maintaining optimal compression, while improving system reliability and operational flexibility across the network.

The compressor also supports connectivity between NGC’s domestic system and the Cross Island Pipeline, helping ensure uninterrupted gas delivery to downstream customers, including power generation and LNG export facilities.

NGC President (Ag.) Edmund Subryan said the acquisition enhances the company’s ability to manage pipeline pressures and throughput more effectively.

“By acquiring TROC and bringing this asset under NGC’s management, we are reinforcing our commitment to operational excellence and ensuring that our customers and stakeholders benefit from a more resilient and efficient gas network,” Subryan said.

NGC added that the compressor asset is central to supporting future gas projects and reinforcing Trinidad and Tobago’s role as a regional gas and LNG supplier.
