TotalEnergies Signs 2 MMtpy LNG Offtake Deal with Glenfarne’s Alaska LNG Project
TotalEnergies has signed a Letter of Intent to purchase 2 MMtpy from Glenfarne’s Alaska LNG project, advancing commercialization of the 20 MMtpy export facility and 807-mile pipeline system.
(P&GJ) — Glenfarne Alaska LNG and TotalEnergies have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the offtake of 2 million tonnes per annum (MMtpy) of liquefied natural gas from the Alaska LNG project, marking another step toward commercializing the proposed 20 MMtpy export facility.
The agreement was signed in Washington, D.C., with U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan and Congressman Nick Begich of Alaska in attendance.
“TotalEnergies is one of the most sophisticated LNG market participants in the world,” said Glenfarne Chief Executive Officer and Founder Brendan Duval. “Alaska LNG offers a unique Pacific orientation that complements TotalEnergies’ supply strategy and provides Asian customers with direct access to U.S. gas. We are proud to add another partner of their caliber to the project.”
TotalEnergies highlighted the project’s geographic positioning for Asian markets.
"We look forward to offtaking LNG from Glenfarne’s Alaska LNG project. The Alaska LNG project is indeed very well geographically positioned to better serve our Asian customers. It also illustrates TotalEnergies’ ambition to consolidate its position as a leading buyer of U.S. LNG, while diversifying its supply sources. TotalEnergies is indeed very proud to have been the number one exporter of US LNG in 2025 with 19 MMt representing 18% of the whole US production,” said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.
Glenfarne aims to contract 80%, or 16 MMtpy, of the project’s planned 20 MMtpy capacity to support financing. The company said it now has 13 MMtpy covered under preliminary long-term agreements with TotalEnergies, JERA, Tokyo Gas, CPC, PTT and POSCO.
Alaska LNG includes an 807-mile, 42-inch pipeline designed to transport natural gas from the North Slope to serve in-state demand and supply LNG exports. The project is being developed in two phases. Phase One includes the domestic pipeline system, while Phase Two would add liquefaction and export infrastructure.
Worley completed primary FEED work on the pipeline at the end of 2025 and has been provisionally named to provide Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management services for the mainline.
The project also has gas sales precedent agreements with North Slope producers ExxonMobil, Hilcorp and Great Bear Pantheon, along with Letters of Intent to supply ENSTAR Natural Gas and the Donlin Gold Mine.
Glenfarne owns 75% of Alaska LNG. The State of Alaska, through the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation, owns the remaining 25%.
