A gas pipeline blowout in Louisiana’s St. Helena Parish prompted a temporary evacuation, with authorities later declaring the area safe and lifting restrictions.

(P&GJ) — A gas pipeline blowout in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana, prompted a temporary evacuation of nearby residents before authorities deemed the area safe, according to WAFB.

The incident occurred along Nesom Road near Highway 16, where officials quickly responded and shut down the affected pipeline to contain the situation, as reported by WAFB.

Out of precaution, residents within roughly a 1.5-mile radius were evacuated while emergency crews assessed the site. Local law enforcement, firefighters and state police coordinated efforts during the response.

Hazardous materials teams with Louisiana State Police evaluated the scene and confirmed that conditions were safe, allowing evacuees to return to their homes shortly after.

No injuries or property damage were reported in connection with the incident, and officials said the situation was brought under control quickly.
