LandBridge, NRG Explore 1,100 MW Gas-Fired Power Project for Delaware Basin Data Center

LandBridge and NRG are evaluating a 1,100 MW natural gas power plant in Texas’ Delaware Basin to support a potential data center project, with permits filed and a possible 2029 start date.

(P&GJ) — LandBridge Company LLC said it has signed a strategic agreement with NRG Energy Inc. regarding a potential data center site in Reeves County, Texas, in the Delaware Basin.

The site could accommodate a 1,100 MW, grid-connected natural gas power plant that NRG may construct if it secures a power purchase agreement with a data center operator. Initial air permit applications and electric interconnection requests have already been filed. If approved, the facility could enter service by year-end 2029.

The proposed site sits near the Waha Gas hub, giving it access to low-cost natural gas and transmission infrastructure. LandBridge said this supports both regional energy development and potential digital infrastructure operations.

“NRG’s selection of this site for potential development of critical power generation supported by a data center project marks an exciting step forward for both LandBridge and the entire Delaware Basin,” said Jason Long, CEO of LandBridge.

Robert J. Gaudette, executive vice president and president of NRG Business and Wholesale Operations, added: “Once anchored by a long-term customer, the site has the potential to foster innovation and support data center growth, economic resilience, and grid stability in the region.”
