Enbridge Approves AGT Enhancement Gas Transmission Pipeline in Northeast
Enbridge has approved its $300 million AGT Enhancement project to boost natural gas deliveries to the U.S. Northeast by 2029, while also confirming progress on the Eiger Express pipeline from the Permian Basin.
(P&GJ) — Enbridge Inc. has reached a final investment decision (FID) on the Algonquin Reliable Affordable Resilient Enhancement (AGT Enhancement) project, aimed at increasing natural gas deliveries to local distribution companies in the U.S. Northeast.
The project will add about 75 MMcf/d of capacity to the Algonquin Gas Transmission system under long-term contracts with investment grade counterparties, Enbridge said. The company expects to invest roughly $300 million in system upgrades, mostly within or adjacent to existing rights-of-way. Pending regulatory approvals, completion is targeted for 2029.
“The AGT Enhancement is designed to strengthen reliable supply and reduce winter price volatility for customers in the Northeast,” said Cynthia Hansen, Enbridge’s executive vice president and president of gas transmission.

In addition to AGT, Enbridge confirmed that through its Matterhorn joint venture it has also reached FID on the Eiger Express Pipeline, a 450-mile, 42-inch system designed to move up to 2.5 Bcf/d from the Permian Basin to the Katy, Texas, area. That project, announced last week, is expected to enter service in 2028.
The company said the two projects are part of the $23 billion in gas transmission opportunities it outlined at its March Investor Day, with both aimed at supporting rising natural gas demand in the U.S. Northeast and LNG exports along the Gulf Coast.
