Gazprom, Kazakhstan Sign Deal to Develop Cross-Border Gas Pipeline

Gazprom and Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum to build a new gas pipeline connecting the two countries, alongside a long-term deal for processing gas from the Karachaganak field at Russia’s Orenburg plant. The move strengthens regional gas cooperation across Central and South Asia.

(P&GJ) — Russia’s state-owned Gazprom and the government of Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a new cross-border natural gas pipeline linking the two countries, Gazprom announced.

The agreement was signed during a working meeting between Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar. The two sides emphasized their commitment to long-term energy cooperation and highlighted Kazakhstan’s rising demand for natural gas.

A separate long-term agreement was also signed outlining terms for processing Kazakh gas in Russia. The deal formalizes cooperation on processing gas from Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak field at Russia’s Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, which is scheduled for modernization to increase capacity.

Miller also met with Kyrgyzstan’s Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev to discuss ongoing gas supply cooperation. “They discussed current and prospective issues of cooperation in the gas sector, in particular the supply of Russian gas to the republic and efforts by Gazprom Kyrgyzstan LLC to preparation gas transmission and gas distribution systems in Kyrgyzstan for the autumn-winter period,” Gazprom said.

In a separate meeting, Miller and Pakistani Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik discussed “promising areas of cooperation in the gas industry.” The talks included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Gazprom and Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Development Company Limited to explore future collaboration opportunities.
