DOE Grants Final LNG Export Approval for Venture Global’s CP2 Project in Louisiana
Final DOE approval clears the way for Venture Global’s CP2 LNG exports from Louisiana — authorizing up to 3.96 Bcf/d to non-FTA markets.
(P&GJ) — The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued final approval for Venture Global LNG’s CP2 export project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, authorizing shipments of up to 3.96 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of U.S. natural gas to countries without a free trade agreement.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright signed the authorization on Oct. 22, finalizing the non-FTA export approval for the $10 billion project. The decision follows DOE’s conditional authorization in March 2025 and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s May 2025 order approving the facility’s siting, construction, and operation.
“In less than ten months, President Trump’s administration is redefining what it means to unleash American energy by approving record new LNG exports,” said Kyle Haustveit, Assistant Secretary of the Office of Fossil Energy. “Finalizing the non-FTA authorization for CP2 LNG will enable secure and reliable American energy access for our allies and trading partners, while also providing well-paid jobs and economic opportunities at home.”
DOE said the authorization incorporates its May 2025 response to comments on the 2024 LNG Export Study, reaffirming that U.S. LNG exports strengthen America’s energy leadership and provide allies with stable energy supplies.
The approval marks another milestone for the Trump administration’s efforts to expand LNG exports. Since lifting the previous LNG export pause on day one, DOE has authorized more than 13.8 Bcf/d of new LNG exports—exceeding the total exported by the world’s second-largest LNG supplier. Current U.S. LNG exports stand at roughly 15 Bcf/d, up about 25% from 2024 levels.
