MPLX to Supply Gas for MARA’s West Texas Power, Data Center Development

MPLX and MARA Holdings signed a letter of intent to develop gas-fueled power generation and data center campuses in West Texas. The projects will use natural gas from MPLX’s Delaware Basin plants, with an initial capacity of 400 MW and potential expansion to 1.5 GW.

(P&GJ) — MPLX LP and MARA Holdings, Inc. have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to collaborate on integrated power generation and data center developments in West Texas, aimed at supporting the region’s growing energy and digital infrastructure needs.

Under the agreement, MPLX will supply natural gas from its Delaware Basin processing facilities to MARA’s planned gas-fired power plants, which will provide electricity for new data center campuses and MPLX operations. The facilities will start with 400 MW of capacity and could expand to 1.5 GW as demand increases.

“This collaboration will create additional in-basin demand in the Delaware Basin and enhance our natural gas value chain with improved power reliability, benefiting existing producer-customers,” said Maryann Mannen, MPLX president and chief executive officer.

Fred Thiel, MARA chairman and CEO, said the partnership allows the company to “leverage lower-cost local natural gas resources and build the foundation for high-performance, efficient data center campuses,” adding that the approach will support the region’s transformation into a digital infrastructure hub.

Under the LOI, MARA will own and operate the power generation and data center facilities, while MPLX will provide natural gas and receive electricity under a tolling agreement. The initiative remains subject to regulatory approvals, due diligence, and final agreements.
