SLB Secures Carbon Storage Deal for North Sea CCS Project

SLB will develop six carbon storage wells for the Northern Endurance Partnership’s East Coast Cluster CCS project in the UK, supporting efforts to reduce industrial carbon emissions starting in 2028.

(P&GJ) — SLB has been awarded a contract to develop carbon storage wells for the Northern Endurance Partnership’s (NEP) carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in the UK.

The project will support the East Coast Cluster, which aims to capture and transport carbon dioxide from industrial sites in Teesside and the Humber to permanent storage under the North Sea.

NEP is a joint venture formed by bp, Equinor, and TotalEnergies. The partnership is developing onshore and offshore infrastructure to deliver large-scale carbon storage capacity for the UK’s most carbon-intensive industrial regions.

As part of the contract, SLB will construct six carbon storage wells using its Sequestri portfolio, which includes technologies designed specifically for CCS site development. The scope of work includes drilling, measurement, cementing, fluids, completions, wireline, and pumping services.

The NEP infrastructure will enable the transport and permanent storage of up to 4 million metric tons of CO2 per year, starting in 2028. The project’s Endurance saline aquifer and adjacent storage sites could eventually hold up to 1 billion metric tons of CO2.
