Seatrium Wins Golar Contract to Upgrade FLNG Hilli for Argentina Redeployment

Seatrium has secured a contract from Golar to upgrade the FLNG Hilli Episeyo for redeployment offshore Argentina, where it will liquefy gas from the Vaca Muerta shale starting in 2027.

(P&GJ) — Seatrium Limited has secured a contract from Golar Hilli Corporation, a subsidiary of Golar LNG Ltd., to upgrade the FLNG Hilli Episeyo for redeployment offshore Argentina.

The vessel will undergo modifications at Seatrium’s yard in the third quarter of 2026, with work including procurement of long-lead items, repairs, life extension measures, winterization, and installation of a new soft-yoke mooring system .

Once completed, Hilli Episeyo will operate in the Gulf of San Matias, liquefying natural gas from Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale formation for 20 years. The vessel, with a nameplate capacity of 2.45 million tonnes per year, is expected to restart operations in 2027 .

“This FLNG upgrading contract reflects Golar’s continued confidence in Seatrium,” said Marlin Khiew, Executive Vice President, Energy (Americas) at Seatrium. “Hilli Episeyo is a testament to the strong track record of projects we have delivered to Golar.”

Seatrium originally converted and delivered Hilli Episeyo in 2017. The company also delivered FLNG Gimi in 2023, which recently began operations at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim field.

Seatrium highlighted that the project supports LNG’s role as a transition fuel and builds on the group’s decades of expertise in LNG-related projects, including LNG carriers, bunkering vessels, and dual-fuel ships.
