NGUYA FLNG Ready to Begin Operations for Congo LNG Project

Wison New Energies and Eni have launched the 2.4 MTPA Nguya FLNG for deployment offshore Congo, marking a key step in the Congo LNG Project and achieving 30 million safe work hours.

(P&GJ) — Wison New Energies and Eni have marked the sail away of the Nguya floating LNG (FLNG) unit, the core production facility for Eni’s Congo LNG Project. The milestone was celebrated alongside the achievement of 30 million manhours without a lost-time incident.

The 376-meter-long facility, with a breadth of 60 meters and depth of 35 meters, has storage capacity for 180,000 cubic meters of LNG and 45,000 cubic meters of LPG. It is designed to produce 2.4 million tonnes per annum of LNG and will be deployed offshore near Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo.

For the first time, Wison has incorporated CHART’s IPSMR® liquefaction technology and SPB® tank design into an FLNG unit, aiming to boost liquefaction efficiency and storage reliability. The facility also integrates dual-fuel gas turbine generators and waste heat recovery units to cut carbon emissions.

“Delivering the NGUYA FLNG within 33 months — from contract award to sail away — and achieving 30 million manhours LTI-free reflects Wison New Energies’ full-cycle EPCIC capabilities and efficiency,” said Wei Huaqing, Vice President of Wison New Energies and Project Director of NGUYA FLNG.

Distinguished guests at the sail away ceremony included Republic of Congo Hydrocarbons Minister Bruno Jean Richard Itoua, Eni’s Stefano Maione, Wison Group founder Hua Bangsong, and Wison New Energies Chairman Liu Hongjun.

The Nguya FLNG will supply gas to Eni’s Congo LNG development, a key project for the country’s energy strategy and exports.
