Indian Oil Becomes ADNOC’s Largest LNG Customer with New Deal

ADNOC has signed a 15-year LNG supply deal with Indian Oil for 1 MTPA from its Ruwais project, making Indian Oil the company’s largest LNG customer by 2029.

(P&GJ) — ADNOC has signed a 15-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IndianOil) for the supply of 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG), primarily from its lower-carbon Ruwais LNG project.

The agreement converts a previous Heads of Agreement into a definitive SPA, reinforcing ADNOC’s presence in Asia’s growing LNG market and expanding its role as a reliable long-term supplier. Under the contract, LNG cargoes can be delivered to any port across India.

By 2029, IndianOil will become ADNOC’s largest LNG customer with 2.2 MTPA in total offtake — including 1.2 MTPA from ADNOC’s Das Island operations and 1 MTPA from the Ruwais LNG project.

“This long-term agreement with IndianOil underscores the robust energy relations between the UAE and India,” said Rashid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, ADNOC’s senior vice president of marketing. “Through our world-class Ruwais LNG Project, ADNOC will continue to provide more lower-carbon gas to meet growing global demand, fuel industries and power homes.”

The Ruwais LNG facility, under development in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi, is expected to begin operations in 2028. More than 8 MTPA of its planned 9.6 MTPA capacity has already been committed through long-term contracts.

The project will be the first LNG facility in the Middle East powered entirely by clean energy, positioning it among the lowest carbon-intensity LNG plants worldwide. ADNOC has said the project will leverage advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to boost efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

The agreement also reflects progress under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between the UAE and India in 2022, which has deepened bilateral energy trade.
