Halliburton Joins 90-Mile CO₂ Pipeline Project in UK East Coast Carbon Capture Network
Halliburton has secured a contract to support carbon storage monitoring for the Northern Endurance Partnership’s CCS project in northeast England, supplying equipment from its UK manufacturing facility.
(P&GJ) — Halliburton has been awarded a contract to provide completions and downhole monitoring services for the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP)’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in the East Coast Cluster of northeast England.
The contract supports development of infrastructure designed to permanently store up to 4 million tonnes of CO₂ per year in the Endurance saline aquifer, located approximately 1,000 meters below the seabed. The CCS system includes a CO₂ gathering network, onshore compression facilities, a 145-kilometer (90-mile) offshore pipeline, and subsea injection and monitoring systems.
Halliburton will supply most of the required equipment from its Arbroath, Scotland manufacturing center, which has served North Sea operations for over 50 years and supports advanced manufacturing, testing, and product development.
“Halliburton is pleased to develop and deliver innovative well completions and monitoring solutions for this groundbreaking carbon storage project,” said Jean-Marc Lopez, senior vice president for Europe, Eurasia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. “This project allows expansion of our completions activity and showcases Halliburton’s leadership in CCS projects. We look forward to the opportunity to deliver our services to support the NEP project.”
The NEP, formed in 2020, is a joint venture between bp, Equinor, and TotalEnergies. It serves as the transportation and storage provider for CO₂ emissions captured from industrial sources in the Teesside and Humber regions.
