Explosion Caused by Natural Gas Pipeline on Field
12/26/2020
A pipeline rupture caused an explosion in a field near Lyons, Neb., on Christmas Day that was large enough to be seen by satellite.

A spokesman for Northern Natural Gas company told the Hastings Tribune the explosion took place at about 3:30 p.m. and did not result in injuries. Lyons is 80 miles northwest of Omaha.
Northern Natural Gas personnel were on the scene soon after the explosion and worked to close valves that would allow the fire to burn out on its own.
The cause of the rupture has not yet been determined.
