Advanced Process Control Is Designed for the Wrong End User

Advanced process control is widely deployed in refineries and pipeline control rooms, but adoption and utilization often lag. This article argues that APC design priorities are misaligned with the control room operator—the true end user—and outlines a user-centered path to higher utilization and performance.
