UK Oil and Gas Authority Releases Data on Over 3,000 Pipelines

The United Kingdom Oil and Gas National Data Repository (NDR) has been launched with more than 130 terabytes of data covering thousands of pipelines, offshore wellbores, and seismic surveys going back more than 50 years.

The repository comes from the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA), which hopes the repository will spur recovery of an estimated 20 billion barrels of oil and gas that still remain on the U.K. Continental Shelf.

“For the industry, it means access to a huge data pool to harness digital technology, relieves them of the regulatory requirement to retain information, and enhances collaboration,” said Simon James, OGA chief information officer.
