Pipe Coating Group Re-Elects Top Two Officers

The National Association of Pipe Coating Applicators (NAPCA) re-elected Merry Brumbaugh and Brendan Ryan to second terms as president and vice president, respectively, at the association’s 46th annual meeting held in April at Indian Wells, CA.

Brumbaugh is vice president, tubular products, at L.B. Foster Co., Pittsburgh, PA. Ryan is vice president and general manager-North America, of Bredero Shaw, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

NAPCA, which held its first convention in 1965, provides a forum for owners of fixed pipe-coating facilities to share solutions to common technical and business challenges and to network with manufacturers and suppliers of pipe-coating materials and equipment, manufacturers of line pipe, providers of pipe transportation and handling, consulting firms, independent inspection firms, stocking pipe distributors, and other material and service providers.

The convention is open to members and invited guests. Its program offers a combination of general and segment-specific business meetings and recreational events. The general business sessions featured presentations by Dr. Loren C. Scott of Loren C. Scott & Associates, Baton Rouge, LA who offered a look into the economic future; David Webster, P. Eng., manager of Pipeline & Asset Integrity for the Pipeline Systems Business Unit, WorleyParsons, Calgary, who spoke on the topic, “Pipeline Design and Coating Selection for Remote Locations;” Ed Kalio, director of Gas Consulting, Ziff Energy Group, Calgary, who addressed “North American Gas Supply and Demand;” and Stephen Becker, vice president-Business Development, TransCanada Corporation, who discussed “Shale Gas Development and the Outlook for Pipeline Construction.”

The full slate of officers elected for 2010 includes Brumbaugh and Ryan along with Gary Brown, secretary/treasurer; and Merritt B. Chastain, III, NAPCA managing director and general counsel. Brown is president of Commercial Coating Services International, Ltd., Conroe, TX; Chastain is partner – Labor and Employment, Gardere Wynne Sewell, LLP, Houston.

Newly elected trustees for 2010 are Joel Chermak, Ron Carlson, Jr. and Hank Reuser. Chermak is general manager of Midwest Pipe Coating, Inc., Schererville, IN; Carlson is president of Commercial Resins Co., Henderson, CO; and Reuser is vice president of Perma-Pipe Oil & Gas, Inc., Houston.
