TGS Advances Vaca Muerta NGL Pipeline, Export Project
TGS is advancing a major Vaca Muerta NGL infrastructure project that includes a new 358-mile liquids pipeline and expanded export capacity in Argentina.
(P&GJ) — Argentine midstream operator Transportadora de Gas del Sur (TGS) is advancing plans for a major natural gas liquids (NGL) infrastructure project tied to continued production growth in the Vaca Muerta shale region, according to a recent company investor presentation.
The project would expand Argentina’s ability to process, transport and export NGL volumes from Vaca Muerta through a new integrated midstream system stretching from Neuquén province to the Atlantic coast.
According to the presentation, the proposed development includes expanded gas processing capacity at Tratayén, a new 577-km (358-mile) liquids pipeline and additional fractionation and export infrastructure near Bahía Blanca.
TGS said the project is designed to support growing production from Vaca Muerta while improving export capabilities for propane, butane and natural gasoline. The infrastructure would include a dedicated liquids pipeline known as “Poliducto 20,” along with storage and marine loading facilities tied to export operations.
The company’s presentation outlined processing capacity of up to 43 million cubic meters per day at Tratayén and fractionation capacity of roughly 2.8 million metric tons per year at Bahía Blanca.
TGS said construction of the full system would take approximately 45 months once development moves forward.
The NGL project forms part of broader expansion efforts tied to Vaca Muerta, where TGS has continued increasing gathering, treatment and transportation infrastructure in recent years. The company said it has already invested heavily in midstream assets supporting shale production growth across the basin.
Argentina has been accelerating pipeline and export infrastructure development as Vaca Muerta production continues rising, with operators seeking additional takeaway and export capacity to reach international markets.
