KazMunayGas Reroutes Oil Exports After Druzhba Pipeline Halt

KazMunayGas is redirecting oil exports to alternative routes, including the CPC pipeline, after Druzhba flows were halted, impacting supplies to Europe.

(Reuters) — KazMunayGas (KMG), Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company, said on May 5 it will redirect oil exports to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) and Russian ports following the suspension of flows through the Druzhba pipeline, Russian news agency Interfax reported.

  • Russia halted Kazakh oil deliveries to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline from May 1, with its Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak saying all volumes had been redirected to other routes.
  • Kazakhstan's energy ministry said 260,000 metric tons of crude scheduled for May and originally destined for Germany via the Druzhba pipeline would be diverted to the CPC's Black Sea terminal and to Russia's Baltic port of Ust-Luga.
  • Kazakh oil delivered to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline had supplied the PCK Schwedt refinery, Berlin's main fuel source, accounting for about 17% of its crude intake.
  • Moscow cited technical reasons for the halt, while Kazakh officials said it was likely linked to Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
  • Kazakhstan exported 2.146 million metric tons of oil to Germany via Druzhba in 2025.
