Double E Pipeline Nears 1.8 Bcf Daily as Expansion Interest Grows

Summit Midstream said shipper commitments continue rising on the Double E Pipeline as the company evaluates a potential expansion project tied to growing Permian gas demand.

(P&GJ) — Summit Midstream said contracted volumes on the Double E Pipeline have reached 1.8 billion cubic feet per day as the company evaluates a potential expansion project amid growing shipper demand in the Permian Basin.

The company announced it recently signed a new 10-year take-or-pay agreement for 100 million cubic feet per day of firm transportation capacity tied to a processing plant in Eddy County, New Mexico. The associated lateral connection is expected to enter service in the first quarter of 2027.

Summit said the latest agreement adds to previously announced commitments and further supports commercial momentum behind the Double E system, which transports natural gas from the Delaware Basin to delivery points near the Waha Hub in Texas.

Management said it is also seeing “significant shipper interest” in a recently launched open season tied to a proposed compression expansion project that could add approximately 800 million cubic feet per day of capacity to the pipeline.

Double E averaged 805 million cubic feet per day of throughput during the first quarter of 2026, up from 664 million cubic feet per day during the same period last year, according to the company.

Summit Midstream said producer activity remains strong across parts of the Rockies and Permian regions, with increasing drilling activity and new well connections expected through the second quarter. The company also noted continued pipeline demand growth tied to processing infrastructure in southeastern New Mexico.
