IKM Testing Wins Pre-Commissioning Role on UK CO₂ Pipeline Project

IKM Testing UK has secured a pre-commissioning role on the Northern Endurance Partnership project, supporting CO₂ pipeline infrastructure for the UK’s East Coast carbon capture network.

(P&GJ) — IKM Testing UK has been awarded a contract to provide pre-commissioning services for CO₂ pipeline infrastructure as part of the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) carbon capture project in the United Kingdom.

The work will support development of onshore and offshore pipelines designed to transport captured CO₂ from industrial sites across Teesside and the Humber to storage locations beneath the North Sea.

IKM will perform pre-commissioning activities including flooding, cleaning, gauging and hydrotesting, aimed at verifying pipeline integrity and ensuring the system is ready for operation ahead of CO₂ injection.

The NEP project is a key component of the UK’s East Coast Cluster, which is focused on decarbonizing industrial regions through large-scale carbon capture and storage.

IKM is working under Saipem, the project’s main engineering, procurement and construction contractor, as part of broader efforts to prepare the CO₂ transport network for service.

“Pre-commissioning is a critical stage in the delivery of any major pipeline system, particularly for CO₂ infrastructure where safety and integrity are paramount. Our role is to ensure these assets are fully tested, verified and ready for service before operations begin.

Securing this contract reflects the depth of engineering expertise we have here in Aberdeen and the growing role North east Scotland continues to play in delivering large-scale energy transition projects across the UK.”

The contract reflects continued growth in carbon capture infrastructure across the UK, as operators advance pipeline networks needed to support long-term CO₂ transport and storage.
