Fluxys Named CO₂ Pipeline Operator for Antwerp Port Network

Fluxys has been appointed operator of a CO₂ pipeline network in Antwerp, advancing carbon transport infrastructure linking industry to North Sea storage.

(P&GJ) — Fluxys c-grid Antwerp has been appointed as the local CO₂ network operator for the Antwerp port area, marking a step forward in building pipeline infrastructure to transport captured carbon for storage.

The designation by the Flemish government follows new regulations governing CO₂ pipeline transport and comes as construction begins on the first CO₂ pipeline in the port.

Fluxys c-grid Antwerp, a subsidiary of Fluxys Belgium alongside Pipelink and Air Liquide, is developing an open-access CO₂ pipeline network designed to connect industrial emitters to storage sites in the North Sea, including through the Antwerp@C export hub.

The network is intended to provide long-term transport capacity for captured CO₂ from industrial sites within and beyond the port, supporting broader decarbonization efforts and cross-border infrastructure development.

The appointment builds on earlier designations of Fluxys as a CO₂ network operator across Belgium, with plans to link infrastructure in neighboring countries such as Germany to offshore storage.

“I am pleased that the Flemish authorities have appointed us as ‘LCNO’, operator of the CO₂ pipeline network in the Antwerp port area, for the next 20 years,” said Pascal De Buck, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Fluxys c-grid Antwerp. “With Fluxys c-grid Antwerp, we aim to fully support society in achieving decarbonisation. We provide the industry in the port area and beyond with the CO₂ transport infrastructure it needs, thereby helping maintain industrial activity in Europe while keeping climate goals firmly in sight.”
