Chevron Signs Western Australia Gas Supply Agreement with Alinta

Chevron will supply natural gas to Alinta Energy under a new five-year agreement sourced from the Gorgon, Wheatstone and North West Shelf projects in Western Australia.

(P&GJ) — Chevron Australia has signed a five-year natural gas supply agreement with Alinta Energy to deliver 46 petajoules (PJ) of gas from its Western Australia portfolio beginning in July 2027.

Under the agreement, Chevron will supply gas from its equity interests in the Gorgon, Wheatstone and North West Shelf projects, supporting electricity generation, industrial customers and residential demand across Western Australia.

The agreement extends a commercial relationship between Chevron and Alinta Energy that spans more than 40 years.

Chevron Australia President Balaji Krishnamurthy said the company's LNG developments continue to play a significant role in the state's domestic gas market.

"Following almost a decade in operation, Gorgon and Wheatstone have become pillars of energy security for the state and together provide approximately 40% of Western Australia's domestic gas supply," Krishnamurthy said.

He added that the agreement demonstrates how Western Australia's domestic gas policy supports both LNG exports and local energy supply.

"Natural gas underpins our everyday lives, from powering electricity generation to supporting the state's world-class mining sector, and we remain committed to delivering the affordable, reliable energy that Western Australians depend on," he said.

Alinta Energy Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dimery said securing long-term gas supplies from established producing assets strengthens the company's supply portfolio.

"Securing long-term supply from established projects like Gorgon, Wheatstone and the North West Shelf is critical to meeting the needs of our customers and supporting the state's energy security," Dimery said.

The agreement provides Alinta with additional long-term supply certainty as Western Australia's energy demand continues to grow.
