BPCL Leads Nationwide Push to Expand PNG, CNG Use Across India
BPCL is leading a nationwide CGD industry initiative to expand PNG and CNG adoption across India, supporting gas demand growth and the country’s target to raise natural gas’s share of the energy mix to 15% by 2030.
(P&GJ) — Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited is leading a nationwide industry initiative aimed at accelerating adoption of piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) across residential, transportation, industrial and commercial sectors in India.
The program, known as PNG Drive 2.0, is a coordinated effort by India’s city gas distribution (CGD) industry under the guidance of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board to expand access to natural gas and increase consumer awareness at the last mile.
BPCL said PNG Drive 2.0 builds on a unified industry framework designed to promote wider use of natural gas through harmonized messaging and coordinated outreach across regions. The initiative brings multiple CGD operators onto a common platform while allowing flexibility for localized implementation.
“PNG Drive 2.0 represents the power of industry coming together with a shared purpose. By coming together under a single, powerful narrative, we are simplifying the choice for consumers and clean energy that is reliable, affordable, and truly non-stop. This unified effort can play a catalytic role in accelerating PNG and CNG adoption at scale and advancing India's ambition of increasing the share of natural gas in its energy mix,” said Subhankar Sen, director (marketing) at BPCL.
The campaign highlights the operational and economic advantages of PNG and CNG, including continuous supply through city gas networks, lower emissions and long-term cost efficiency compared with conventional fuels. BPCL said the effort is focused on increasing adoption across households, vehicle fleets and commercial users.
BPCL has been tasked with coordinating execution of PNG Drive 2.0 across the CGD industry, managing campaign alignment while supporting regional rollout. The company said on-the-ground engagement is already underway through consumer awareness programs, community outreach, digital engagement and localized activations.
The initiative supports India’s broader energy transition goals, including a national target to raise natural gas’s share of the energy mix from about 6.5% today to 15% by 2030.
