Vår Energi Advances Goliat Gas Export Pipeline Tie-In to Hammerfest LNG
Vår Energi is advancing a subsea gas export pipeline from the Goliat field to the Hammerfest LNG plant, expanding Barents Sea gas transport infrastructure and enabling future tie-ins.
(P&GJ) — Vår Energi has submitted an amended development plan for the Goliat Gas Export (GGE) project, advancing a subsea gas export solution that will connect the Goliat field to existing LNG infrastructure in northern Norway.
The project, developed with partner Equinor, includes installation of a 12-km subsea gas export pipeline, along with a riser and umbilical system linking the Goliat FPSO to the Snøhvit pipeline network and the Hammerfest LNG plant.
Under the planned configuration, associated gas currently reinjected into the reservoir will be exported and processed through Hammerfest LNG under a gas bank arrangement, allowing volumes to be monetized as processing capacity becomes available.
The development is designed to enhance utilization of existing midstream infrastructure while expanding gas transport capacity in the Barents Sea. It also establishes a framework for future tie-ins, including the nearby Goliat Ridge development, supporting broader regional buildout.
First gas exports are expected following project startup in 2029, aligned with modifications to the Goliat FPSO required to integrate the new export system. Total project investment is estimated at approximately $360 million.
The GGE project highlights continued efforts to optimize offshore gas handling and transportation solutions in northern Norway, where access to LNG infrastructure remains a key driver of development.
