LNG Canada Advances Coastal GasLink Expansion with New Compressor Design Work

LNG Canada advances Phase 2 of the Coastal GasLink pipeline, targeting major capacity growth through added compression along the existing route.

(P&GJ) — LNG Canada has awarded front-end engineering and design (FEED) work to Técnicas Reunidas to support a potential expansion of the Coastal GasLink pipeline in British Columbia, according to company information.

The work will focus on planning additional compression and system upgrades aimed at increasing gas throughput to the LNG export facility in Kitimat.

The proposed Phase 2 expansion would boost pipeline capacity from approximately 2.1 billion cubic feet per day to as much as 5 billion cubic feet per day by adding five new compressor stations and modifying existing infrastructure along the route. The project is being evaluated as LNG Canada continues technical and cost analysis ahead of a potential final investment decision.

Arthur Crossley, Chief Commercial Officer of Técnicas Reunidas, emphasized that this contract, in addition to its high relevance, “contributes to our goal of strengthening collaboration with global LNG developers participating in the LNG Canada joint venture, as well as boosting our growth in service contracts, which is a fundamental pillar of our Strategic Plan.”
