Owner Won’t Reopen Fuel Pipeline in Northeast Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker’s administration says the owner of a fuel pipeline that had served northeastern Wisconsin until it shut down in March 2016 will not be reopened. The Department of Administration said Friday that the West Shore Pipeline Company has notified the state that it will not replace the aging pipeline used to transport gasoline and diesel fuel. The 56-year-old, 110-mile-long pipeline runs from north of Milwaukee to Green Bay. Since its closure, the state has worked with local officials and industry leaders to get fuel to that part of Wisconsin. […]

Iowa Pipeline Leak Blamed on Errant Excavator

HANLONTOWN, Iowa (AP) — An Oklahoma-based company has blamed an errant excavator for damaging a pipeline in northern Iowa that spilled nearly 47,000 gallons of diesel fuel. Magellan Midstream Partners released a statement Tuesday saying the excavator apparently didn’t check with regulators about the location of underground utilities, as required by Iowa law. Authorities say the leaking fuel was discovered during a snowstorm on Jan. 25 near Hanlontown in Worth County. Magellan spokesman Tom Byers told The Associated Press that the company hasn’t taken any legal or regulatory steps against the excavator. Byers did not […]

Company: Size of Iowa Diesel Pipeline Spill Overestimated

HANLONTOWN, Iowa (AP) — Pipeline officials say far less diesel fuel than feared spilled from a broken pipeline in north-central Iowa. Magellan Midstream Partners officials initially estimated that nearly 139,000 gallons spilled when the pipeline broke near Hanlontown on Wednesday. But the company told the Mason City Globe Gazette (http://bit.ly/2jysuhZ ) Monday that it has reported a new estimate of nearly 47,000 gallons to federal authorities. Magellan spokesman Bruce Heine said the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company reached the new estimate by calculating how much diesel had to be pumped in to get the pipeline back online. The […]

Iowa Spill Is Largest of Diesel Fuel in US Since 2010

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Workers were expected to complete cleaning up Thursday about 140,000 gallons of diesel fuel that spewed from a broken pipeline onto an Iowa farm, the largest U.S. diesel spill since 2010, federal authorities said. Vacuum trucks were sucking up the fuel that spilled onto an acre of grass and tilled farmland when the pipeline broke. About 18 percent of the liquid had been removed, and no fuel entered rivers or streams, Iowa Department of Natural Resources spokesman Jeff Vansteenburg early on Thursday. No farm field drain lines have been severed […]
