Considering negative reports on the nation’s economic status, pipeline construction in the U.S. is experiencing a healthy market as operators and producers continue stepped-up activity supported by projects to move natural gas to the Midwest and the East Coast from Mid-Continent shale plays and the Rocky Mountains.
The new administration in Washington will mean changes at the Federal Communications Commission which will likely have a significant effect on oil and gas operators involved in the specialized field of energy telecommunications. Yet that is just one of the issues that concerns operators.
Duke Energy uses a GE Frame 5 gas turbine to drive a compressor used in a natural gas pipeline. The intake system required retrofitting with a silencer to meet current regulations and the need also existed to reduce particle contamination. The pressure drop in the initial design was found to be 8.5 inches of water, much higher than the design specification which was 5.3 inches.
As traditional natural gas reservoirs are depleted, producers are forced to target lower pressure wells that typically produce a “wet gas.”
