Specialist pipe measurement technology company Optical Metrology Services (OMS) Ltd, recently completed measuring more than 19,000 pipe ends for Bredero Shaw at its pipe-coating facility in Leith, Scotland. The pipes are destined for use on Chevron’s technically challenging Congo River Crossing (CRX) Pipeline project.
A new international standard for pipeline concrete coatings – ISO 21809-5:2010 – Petroleum and natural gas industries – External coatings for buried or submerged pipelines used in pipeline transportation systems – Part 5: External concrete coatings – was published on March 18, 2010, by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The economic crisis has affected pipeline construction as with many other industries, because of the lack of availability of finance for new projects, and because of the drop in oil and gas prices. However, oil prices are starting to rise again in 2010 and the outlook for pipe coating is very encouraging, according to Noru Tsalic, Consultant at Applied Market Information.
Bredero Shaw, a subsidiary of ShawCor Limited, was awarded the contract to produce 40 km of coated insulated pipeline for Sabah Shell Petroleum’s Gumusut-Kakap Deepwater Project.
