Baker Hughes to Provide Coiled-Tubing Drilling for Dubai Gas Storage Project
(P&GJ) — Baker Hughes has secured a multi-year contract to deliver integrated coiled-tubing drilling services for the Margham Gas Storage Project, operated by Dubai Petroleum Establishment (DPE) on behalf of the Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP).
The project is part of Dubai’s broader effort to strengthen its low-carbon energy infrastructure. It aims to enhance energy system flexibility by improving the ability to switch between natural gas and solar power.
The agreement expands Baker Hughes' role in the Margham project. The company is already supplying its Integrated Compressor Line (ICL) units for gas storage, injection, and export.
“Baker Hughes has built a reputation as a leader in coiled-tubing drilling and mature assets solutions, and we bring a track record of success across the region to this important project,” said Amerino Gatti, executive vice president of Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes. “Our integrated solutions approach combines industry-leading technology and expertise across the energy value chain to help DPE scale-up and develop reliable, secure and lower-carbon power solutions for their country.”
The drilling scope includes Baker Hughes’ CoilTrak™ bottomhole assembly (BHA) system, which allows for efficient slim-hole multilateral drilling and improved reservoir connectivity. The technology enables operators to increase underground gas storage capacity by maximizing reservoir contact during horizontal drilling.
The Margham project utilizes a mature field of the same name and represents a strategic initiative to boost energy security and reduce emissions in the region.
